Personal Life
Journey from Belgrade to New York
Six months after returning to Belgrade, I received an invitation to participate in a piano festival in New York. From the moment I arrived, I felt an instant connection. The vibrant streets, delicious bagels, towering skyscrapers, and, most importantly, the incredible people I met made me feel right at home. As a result, many of these connections have grown into lasting friendships, which have profoundly impacted both my personal and professional life.
Balancing Personal Life and a Demanding Career
When it comes to balancing personal and professional life, my roles blend seamlessly. Managing concert production online gives me the flexibility to work from various locations, including my favorite neighborhood coffee shop. In the mornings, I dedicate time to piano practice, even though I’m less active as a pianist now. Then, in the evenings, I focus on concerts, often shared with friends. While mixing personal and professional life isn’t always advised, it works well for me, creating a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.
Personal Interests and Hobbies
Outside of music, I find joy in taking long walks with my dog, writing, and traveling to new destinations. Additionally, at home, I unwind by reading books and watching series, which help me relax and maintain a balanced life.
Personal and Professional Integration
Influence of Personal Experiences and Cultural Background
My cultural background and personal experiences are deeply intertwined with my music and event planning. Since I have played the piano since childhood, I’ve always been surrounded by cultural events. Therefore, I stay true to the genres I grew up with—mainly classical music and jazz—despite organizing a variety of events. Ultimately, these genres reflect my cultural roots and personal journey.
Impact of Personal Life on Professional Work
My personal and professional lives often overlap, which enriches my work experience. Consequently, many of my colleagues have become close friends, making my professional journey warmer and more enjoyable. Some of these friendships date back to our early school days, and over the years, we’ve grown together, both personally and professionally.
Staying Inspired and Motivated
Music is, without a doubt, my greatest source of inspiration. Completing projects with talented professionals is deeply fulfilling. Despite being a perfectionist, I strive to maintain a sense of humor and avoid taking things too seriously. Beautiful places inspire me, which often leads to travels to exotic destinations. On the other hand, balancing work and life is crucial, and I’ve learned to step back when one side starts to dominate.
Professional Life
Inspiration for the Kolarac National University Hall Concerts
The Kolarac project, in particular, stands out as a career highlight. Kolarac has always been a significant milestone for musicians from this region. When I learned about the need for a new piano, I quickly began planning with the Center for Music agency and Mirjana Lazarevic. Although the $200,000 piano was a challenge, the overwhelming support from musicians and culture enthusiasts made the project incredibly rewarding.
Selecting Repertoire and Planning Concerts
Initially, I tailored concert themes to suit the audience. However, as I gained experience, I discovered my unique style, which the audience recognized and appreciated. This personal touch, in turn, motivated me to continue on my path with even greater enthusiasm. Now, my approach is to present a repertoire that reflects my artistic identity while resonating with the audience.
Preparing for a Performance at Carnegie Hall
For major performances like the one at Carnegie Hall, I follow a strict preparation routine to ensure confidence. As a result, I avoid leaving too much room for improvisation, allowing me to handle unexpected situations effectively. Although the repertoire is still being finalized, we will, of course, keep the audience updated with the details soon.
About the Book “Around the Piano World”
Throughout my career, I’ve seen many musicians lose hope as they start their professional journeys. Therefore, my book, “Around the Piano World,” is dedicated to them and to young dreamers. Moving to Germany at a young age with limited life experience was challenging, and I want to share my story to inspire others. My goal is for the book to ultimately offer strength and encouragement to explore new paths.
Responsibilities as an Event Organizer
As an event organizer, I ensure musicians have everything they need to feel safe and relaxed while also making sure the audience receives the experience they anticipated. In this role, I act as a bridge between the stage and the audience, facilitating a smooth and enjoyable performance for everyone involved.
Collaborations with Notable Artists
I’ve had the privilege of performing in over 300 concerts with notable artists like Anna Gourari, Seu Jorge, Carlinhos Brown, Bossa Nova, Roman Patkolo, and Bozo Vreco. Indeed, collaborating with these diverse artists has made my work enjoyable and fulfilling, highlighting the importance of teamwork in our industry.
Music and Community
Music’s Role in Bridging Cultural Gaps
Music transcends borders and languages, reaching diverse audiences and showcasing different cultures without uttering a single word. Therefore, it has the power to uplift or diminish, unite or divide. Every society must use music responsibly, recognizing its potential to connect communities in a positive way.
Initiatives and Projects for Community Impact
For years, I’ve organized gala evenings, often starting with waltzes to gently introduce the event. This approach helps guests relax and encourages them to start dancing. Then, as the evening progresses, I select music that aligns with the event’s theme, adapting it as needed. In all my projects, music undeniably plays a crucial role in creating a cohesive and engaging experience.
